Key Requirements

Adds Chapter 63 to Title 6 of the General Laws. Operators may not provide an AI companion unless it maintains a protocol for detecting and responding to user expressions of suicidal ideation, self-harm, or threatened harm to others, including referral to crisis services. Operators must notify users that they are not interacting with a human and must report annually on safety protocols. Customer-service, efficiency, research/technical-assistance and internal-productivity systems are excluded.

'Operators' — any person, partnership, association, firm or business entity (or member, affiliate, subsidiary or beneficial owner) that operates or provides an AI companion to Rhode Island users
