Massive Bio has partnered with FOMAT to pilot AI-based prescreening for oncology clinical trials across a community-focused research network in the United States (Article 59, Clinical Trials Arena). The collaboration targets a persistent problem in oncology research: the difficulty of identifying eligible patients for trials, particularly in community settings outside major academic medical centers.
Pilot Design
The Massive Bio–FOMAT pilot uses AI to analyze patient records against trial eligibility criteria, flagging potential matches for clinical review. By deploying AI prescreening in community oncology practices, the partnership aims to diversify trial participation beyond the academic medical center populations that have historically dominated oncology research, addressing both generalizability concerns and health equity imperatives.
Strategic Significance
Community-based AI prescreening represents an important evolution in clinical trial recruitment. Traditional site-based recruitment is slow, expensive, and produces non-representative samples. AI prescreening at scale, integrated with community practice EHRs, could substantially increase trial enrollment rates and diversity — improving both the speed of drug development and the applicability of trial results to real-world patient populations.
